A IndyCar Series se prepara para um fim de semana histórico com a estreia do Java House Grand Prix of Arlington, nova etapa do calendário disputada em um circuito de rua de 2,7 milhas (aprox. 4,3 km) e 14 curvas montado ao redor de dois dos maiores estádios do Texas.

O traçado passa próximo ao AT&T Stadium, casa do Dallas Cowboys, e ao Globe Life Field, estádio do Texas Rangers. Além da corrida, o evento contará com shows e diversas atrações para os fãs.

Durante coletiva de imprensa antes da etapa, os pilotos Alexander Rossi e Christian Rasmussen falaram sobre as expectativas para a primeira corrida no novo circuito.

Expectativa alta para estreia do circuito

Para Rossi, a etapa de Arlington é um dos eventos mais aguardados da temporada desde o anúncio da corrida.

“Estou muito empolgado. Acho que todos estavam esperando por esse evento desde que foi anunciado. A parceria com o Sr. Jones e com os Cowboys é muito especial. Conforme vimos o circuito tomando forma, ficou ainda mais empolgante. Mal posso esperar para chegar lá e ver tudo pronto”, afirmou o piloto.

O americano também destacou a importância de levar a IndyCar novamente à região de Dallas.

“Conhecendo o trabalho da organização e da Penske, é incrível voltar à área de Dallas. Espero que possamos proporcionar um grande espetáculo.”

Rasmussen busca transformar velocidade em resultado

Para Rasmussen, o fim de semana chega em um momento importante da temporada. O piloto mostrou forte ritmo na etapa anterior, em Phoenix Raceway, onde liderou 69 voltas, mas acabou sem o resultado esperado.

“Estamos ansiosos para Arlington. Não tivemos o começo de temporada que queríamos em termos de resultados, mas mostramos força em Phoenix. Agora queremos transformar esse desempenho em um resultado melhor”, explicou.

O dinamarquês também destacou a motivação extra de correr com as cores do patrocinador principal da prova.

“Será um fim de semana especial para a Java House e para a equipe. É a primeira vez que vamos correr com essa pintura e queremos aproveitar a oportunidade.”

Novo formato de classificação promete emoção

Uma das novidades da etapa será um formato diferente de classificação, no qual os pilotos do Fast 6 disputarão a pole position com uma única volta rápida.

Rossi acredita que a mudança pode trazer ainda mais espetáculo para a categoria.

“Estou fascinado com a ideia. Chegar ao Fast 6 já é uma grande conquista e, com esse formato, você ganha alguns minutos de atenção total da TV no seu carro. É algo que beneficia pilotos, patrocinadores e fãs.”

Rasmussen concorda com a avaliação do companheiro.

“É legal ver a IndyCar tentando algo diferente. Sempre existem incógnitas quando se muda o formato, mas é positivo experimentar.”

Simulador ajuda, mas pista real será desafio

Como o circuito de Arlington é totalmente novo, as equipes tiveram que recorrer principalmente aos simuladores para se preparar. Ainda assim, Rossi acredita que todos começarão praticamente do zero quando chegarem à pista.

“Em um circuito novo você não tem um mapeamento completo da superfície. O simulador usa um escaneamento via GPS e coloca os muros ao redor. Você sabe qual curva vem depois, mas pontos de frenagem, aderência e ondulações só descobriremos quando estivermos realmente na pista.”

Possível ponto de ultrapassagem

Questionados sobre onde podem acontecer as ultrapassagens, Rossi apontou uma área específica do circuito.

“A resposta mais óbvia é no final da reta longa, na Curva 10. Sempre que existe uma zona de frenagem forte depois de uma reta longa, normalmente é um bom ponto para tentar a manobra.”

IndyCar e NASCAR no mesmo evento

Os pilotos também comentaram sobre a experiência recente em Phoenix, onde a IndyCar dividiu o fim de semana com a NASCAR Cup Series.

Para Rossi, a iniciativa pode representar um modelo interessante para o futuro.

“Eu adoraria ver Phoenix de volta ao calendário. A corrida foi muito boa. Também vi muitos fãs da NASCAR assistindo à IndyCar pela primeira vez. Ter dois tipos diferentes de automobilismo em um único ingresso é um conceito fantástico.”

Pressão extra com patrocinador da corrida?

Com a marca patrocinadora da corrida estampada nos carros, Rossi admite que existe um incentivo adicional.

“É uma honra. A Java House fez um trabalho incrível na ativação da marca dentro da categoria. E quando você sabe que o seu chefe pode estar entregando os troféus no pódio, você quer estar lá em cima.”

Rasmussen, por outro lado, vê a situação mais como motivação do que pressão.

“Para mim é mais empolgação do que pressão. É uma oportunidade incrível representar a marca justamente na corrida que leva o nome dela.”

The IndyCar Series is preparing for a historic weekend with the debut of the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington, a new round on the calendar that will take place on a 2.7-mile (4.3 km), 14-turn street circuit built around two of Texas’ most iconic stadiums.

The layout runs near AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Field, the ballpark of the Texas Rangers. In addition to the race, the event will feature concerts and several fan activities throughout the weekend.

During a press conference ahead of the race, drivers Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen spoke about their expectations for the first race on the new circuit.

High expectations for the circuit debut

For Rossi, the Arlington race has been one of the most anticipated events of the season since it was first announced.

“I’m very excited. I think this is an event everyone has been looking forward to since it was announced. The partnership with Mr. Jones and the Cowboys is very special. As we’ve seen images of the track taking shape, it’s become even more exciting. I can’t wait to get there and see everything ready,” the driver said.

The American also highlighted the importance of bringing IndyCar back to the Dallas area.

“Knowing the work of the organization and Penske, it’s great to return to the Dallas area. Hopefully we can put on a great show.”

Rasmussen aims to turn speed into results

For Rasmussen, the weekend comes at an important moment in the season. The driver showed strong pace at the previous race at Phoenix Raceway, where he led 69 laps, but ultimately did not secure the result he was hoping for.

“We’re definitely looking forward to Arlington. We haven’t had the start to the season we wanted in terms of results, but we showed strong pace in Phoenix. Now we want to turn that performance into a better result,” he explained.

The Danish driver also emphasized the extra motivation of racing in the colors of the race’s title sponsor.

“It’s going to be a special weekend for Java House and for the team. It’s the first time we’ll be running this livery and we want to make the most of the opportunity.”

New qualifying format promises excitement

One of the innovations for the race weekend will be a different qualifying format, in which the Fast 6 drivers will fight for pole position with a single flying lap.

Rossi believes the change could add even more excitement to the category.

“I’m fascinated by it. Getting into the Fast 6 is already a big achievement, and with this format you get a few minutes of total TV focus on your car. It’s a win-win situation for drivers, sponsors, and fans.”

Rasmussen agreed with his teammate’s view.

“It’s cool to see IndyCar trying something different. There are always unknowns when you change the format, but it’s positive to experiment.”

Simulator helps, but the real track will be the challenge

Since the Arlington circuit is brand new, teams have had to rely heavily on simulators for preparation. Even so, Rossi believes everyone will be starting almost from scratch once they reach the track.

“With a new track you don’t have a full surface map. The simulator uses a GPS scan with walls added around it. You know what corner comes next, but braking points, grip levels, and bumps are things we’ll only really discover once we’re on track.”

Potential overtaking spot

When asked where overtaking might happen, Rossi pointed to a specific area of the circuit.

“The obvious answer would be at the end of the long straight into Turn 10. Whenever you have a heavy braking zone after a long straight, it usually becomes a good overtaking opportunity.”

IndyCar and NASCAR sharing the same event

The drivers also spoke about their recent experience in Phoenix, where IndyCar shared the race weekend with the NASCAR Cup Series.

For Rossi, the initiative could represent an interesting model for the future.

“I would love to see Phoenix return to the calendar. The race was really good. I also saw a lot of fans in the morning wearing NASCAR jackets at their first IndyCar race. Having two different forms of motorsport on the same ticket is a fantastic concept.”

Extra pressure with the race sponsor?

With the race’s title sponsor featured on their cars, Rossi admits there is an added incentive.

“It’s an honor. Java House has done an incredible job activating the brand within the series. And when you know your boss might be handing out the trophies on the podium, you definitely want to be one of the guys up there.”

Rasmussen, however, sees the situation more as motivation than pressure.

“For me it’s more excitement than pressure. It’s an amazing opportunity to represent the brand in the race that carries its name.”
