Newgarden vence em St. Louis e mantém viva a disputa pelo título da IndyCar

Josef Newgarden voltou a mostrar por que é considerado um dos maiores especialistas em circuitos ovais da IndyCar. Pilotando pela Team Penske, o norte-americano conquistou sua sexta vitória no World Wide Technology Raceway, em St. Louis, neste sábado (24), em mais uma atuação de alto nível.

A corrida foi decidida nos detalhes e na execução estratégica. Newgarden soube administrar a liderança nas voltas finais e resistiu à forte pressão de Marcus Ericsson para cruzar a linha de chegada em primeiro lugar.

“O carro estava muito forte nos reinícios. Conseguimos executar bem quando realmente importava”, afirmou Newgarden após a vitória.

Ericsson e Rasmussen completam o pódio

Marcus Ericsson terminou na segunda posição após liderar parte importante da corrida e manter ritmo competitivo até o fim. O terceiro lugar ficou com Christian Rasmussen, da Ed Carpenter Racing, que surpreendeu com uma performance consistente e agressiva ao longo da prova.

Logo atrás, nomes de peso completaram o top 10: Pato O’Ward, Scott Dixon, Álex Palou, Will Power, Kyle Kirkwood, Felix Rosenqvist e Alexander Rossi.

Palou mantém liderança do campeonato

Mesmo sem vencer, Álex Palou segue na liderança do campeonato da IndyCar. O espanhol havia conquistado a pole position, mas não conseguiu converter o bom desempenho em vitória, ainda assim mantendo uma vantagem importante na classificação geral pela Chip Ganassi Racing.

Newgarden, por outro lado, reduziu a diferença em relação ao topo da tabela e reforça sua candidatura na luta pelo título da temporada 2026. Com o desempenho em St. Louis, o piloto da Penske volta a se colocar como um dos principais nomes na disputa pelo campeonato.

Josef Newgarden once again proved why he is regarded as one of IndyCar’s premier oval specialists. Driving for Team Penske, the American secured his sixth victory at the World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis on Saturday (24), delivering another standout performance.

The race was decided in the final details and strategic execution. Newgarden managed his lead in the closing laps and withstood heavy pressure from Marcus Ericsson to cross the finish line in first place.

“The car was really strong on restarts. We executed well when it mattered most,” Newgarden said after the win.

Ericsson and Rasmussen complete the podium

Marcus Ericsson finished in second place after leading significant portions of the race and maintaining strong pace until the end. The third position went to Christian Rasmussen of Ed Carpenter Racing, who impressed with a bold and consistent drive throughout the event.

Behind them, several big names completed the top 10: Pato O’Ward, Scott Dixon, Álex Palou, Will Power, Kyle Kirkwood, Felix Rosenqvist, and Alexander Rossi.

Palou remains championship leader

Despite not winning, Álex Palou remains at the top of the IndyCar championship standings. The Spanish driver had secured pole position but was unable to convert it into victory, yet still holds a valuable points advantage with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Newgarden, meanwhile, closed the gap to the championship leader and strengthened his title ambitions for the 2026 season. With his performance in St. Louis, the Penske driver reasserts himself as one of the main contenders in the championship fight.
