Arrow McLaren define forte dupla de pilotos para 2027

A Arrow McLaren está apostando alto em sua formação reformulada, confirmando que um hexacampeão da NTT INDYCAR SERIES e vencedor das 500 Milhas de Indianápolis deste ano, apresentado pela Gainbridge, se juntarão à equipe sediada em Indianápolis para a temporada de 2027.

As contratações de Scott Dixon, vencedor das 500 Milhas de Indianápolis em 2008, e Felix Rosenqvist vêm acompanhadas de contratos plurianuais para pilotarem em tempo integral ao lado de Pato O'Ward. Além disso, Ryan Hunter-Reay, vencedor das 500 Milhas de Indianápolis de 2014 e nomeado diretor esportivo da Arrow McLaren no mês passado, voltará a pilotar um carro da equipe no "Maior Espetáculo do Automobilismo" em maio.

A equipe titular da Arrow McLaren contará com pilotos que, juntos, acumulam 71 vitórias na categoria, além de outras 18 de Hunter-Reay. No oval do Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a equipe terá três ex-vencedores na prova do ano que vem – Dixon, Hunter-Reay e Rosenqvist, além de O'Ward, que possui dois segundos lugares – que, juntos, lideraram 1.118 voltas em suas carreiras.

A contratação de Dixon e Rosenqvist ocorre em detrimento de Christian Lundgaard, que venceu duas corridas pela Arrow McLaren nesta temporada, e Nolan Siegel. Lundgaard terminou em segundo lugar, atrás de O'Ward, na Honda Indy 200 de Mid-Ohio, apresentada pelo CR-V Hybrid 2027, no Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, no domingo. Ele ocupa a terceira posição na classificação geral.

Dixon ocupa o segundo lugar na lista de pilotos com mais vitórias na INDYCAR SERIES, com 59. Ele pilota para a Chip Ganassi Racing desde 2002 e conquistou vitórias em um recorde de 23 temporadas.

“É um próximo passo empolgante na minha carreira”, disse Dixon. “Foi uma grande decisão para mim, para minha família, e estou ansioso para contribuir com o que a equipe, Zak (Brown) e Tony estão construindo lá. Como neozelandês, fazer parte do legado de Bruce McLaren será especial; seu espírito e garra ainda estão muito presentes naquela equipe, e estou animado para dar continuidade a isso.”

Rosenqvist correu pela Arrow McLaren por três temporadas (de 2021 a 2023). Em 2023, ele garantiu à Arrow McLaren sua primeira largada na primeira fila em Indianápolis desde que Johnny Rutherford conquistou a pole position em 1976. Rutherford também venceu a corrida naquele ano, a vitória mais recente da McLaren em Indianápolis. Rosenqvist venceu duas corridas e conquistou sete pole positions na INDYCAR SERIES.

Rosenqvist disse estar "animado" para reencontrar O'Ward, que foi seu padrinho de casamento.

“Temos uma equipe incrível com a chegada do Scott e o retorno do Ryan às 500 Milhas”, disse ele. “Acho que nossa experiência coletiva será uma grande vantagem.”

Hunter-Reay venceu 18 corridas na categoria. A vitória de O'Ward em Mid-Ohio foi a décima, todas com a Arrow McLaren. Ele venceu corridas em cinco das últimas seis temporadas.

Hunter-Reay afirmou que o “objetivo número 1” da equipe é vencer em Indianápolis.

Brown destacou a química entre esses quatro pilotos. Dixon e Rosenqvist foram companheiros de equipe na Chip Ganassi Racing durante as duas primeiras temporadas de Rosenqvist na INDYCAR SERIES, e têm trabalhado juntos nos últimos anos por meio da aliança técnica entre a CGR e a Meyer Shank Racing com Curb Agajanian.

Arrow McLaren Sets Strong Driver Lineup for 2027

Arrow McLaren is going big with its revamped lineup, confirmed that a six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and this year’s Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winners are joining the Indianapolis-based organization for the 2027 season.

The signing of Scott Dixon, who won Indy in 2008, and Felix Rosenqvist come with multiyear contracts to drive full-time alongside Pato O’Ward. Additionally, 2014 “500” winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, who last month was named Arrow McLaren’s sporting director, will again drive a team car in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in May.

Arrow McLaren’s full-time lineup will boast drivers who have combined to win 71 series races, plus another 18 of Hunter-Reay On the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval, it will have three former winners in next year’s event – Dixon, Hunter-Reay and Rosenqvist, plus O’Ward, who has a pair of second-place finishes – who have combined to lead 1,118 laps in their careers.

The signing of Dixon and Rosenqvist comes at the expense of Christian Lundgaard, who has won two races for Arrow McLaren this season, and Nolan Siegel. Lundgaard finished second to O’Ward in Sunday’s The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the 2027 CR-V Hybrid at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He is third in the standings.

“It’s never an easy decision, but when you have the opportunity to bring drivers of this caliber into your team, you take it seriously,” Arrow McLaren team principal Tony Kanaan said in the release. “Scott’s accomplishments speak for themselves, Felix is this year’s ‘500’ winner and (is) consistently fast and competitive, and Ryan has the experience and the capability to win the ‘500’ again, without a doubt.

“Add that talent to what we have with Pato, who’s knocking on the door of his own ‘500’ win, and we’re the threat we’ve been building up to be in the championship and the ‘500.’”

Dixon ranks second in INDYCAR SERIES career wins with 59. He has driven with Chip Ganassi Racing since 2002 and has earned race victories in a record 23 seasons.

“(It’s) an exciting next step in my career,” Dixon said. “It was a big decision for myself, for my family, and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak (Brown) and Tony are building there. As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special; his spirit and grit are still very much rooted in that team, and I’m excited to carry that on.”

Rosenqvist drove with Arrow McLaren for three seasons (2021 through 2023). In 2023, he brought Arrow McLaren its first front-row start at Indy since Johnny Rutherford won the pole in 1976. Rutherford won the race that year, too, McLaren’s most-recent Indy win. Rosenqvist has won two races and seven pole positions in the INDYCAR SERIES.

Rosenqvist said he was “excited” to reunite with O’Ward, who was the best man in his wedding.

“We’ve got an incredible lineup with Scott joining and Ryan returning to the ‘500,’” he said. “I think our collective experience will be a huge benefit.”

Hunter-Reay has won 18 races in the series. O’Ward’s win at Mid-Ohio was his 10th, all with Arrow McLaren. He has won races in five of the past six seasons.

Hunter-Reay said the team’s “No. 1 goal” is to win Indy.

Brown noted the chemistry these four drivers have. Dixon and Rosenqvist were teammates at Chip Ganassi Racing in Rosenqvist’s first two INDYCAR SERIES seasons, and they have been working together in recent years through the technical alliance between CGR and Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb Agajanian.

“(That) will no doubt have a positive impact across our entire team,” Brown said.
