A hidratação é fundamental”, disse.

“Temos muitos pilotos fraturando mãos, dedos e pulsos.

Dentro do carro, porém, a competição permanece profissional.

Felix Rosenqvist highlights Meyer Shank Racing progress and targets strong finish to IndyCar season

The NTT IndyCar Series enters its decisive stretch with an intense run of six races across five weekends, and Felix Rosenqvist arrives motivated for the final push of the championship.

The Swedish driver of Meyer Shank Racing spoke during a press conference ahead of the Only Bulls Grand Prix of Portland, discussing the challenges of the final phase of the season, his physical and mental preparation, the team’s development throughout the year, and his expectations for 2027.

Rosenqvist arrives at Portland International Raceway enjoying one of his strongest IndyCar seasons. With two podium finishes at the track and five top-10 results, the driver of the No. 60 Honda is looking to turn his consistency into a victory before the championship finale at Laguna Seca.

Special livery and fan connection

Before the press conference, it was announced that Rosenqvist will race in Portland with a special Grateful Dead-inspired livery, one of Meyer Shank Racing’s most popular collaborations with SiriusXM.

According to the driver, the success of the previous design encouraged the team to continue the project.

“It was our most popular livery last year. A lot of people asked for models and merchandise, so we tried to work on that and this is the follow-up,” Rosenqvist explained.

The final stretch requires physical and mental preparation

After a two-week break, Rosenqvist emphasized the importance of recovery before the busiest part of the schedule.

“It was really good to have a break to recharge with the family and enter this final stretch with good energy. We have some really cool tracks ahead: ovals, road courses and street circuits,” he said.

Despite the demanding schedule, Rosenqvist explained that preparation does not completely change, but requires additional attention to physical and mental aspects.

“It is more about mental and physical preparation. We know it will be tough, especially with hot races. Hydration is key.”

He also highlighted the challenge faced by engineers and mechanics during this period.

“For them it is even harder because there is not much time to breathe between weekends. But we are all professionals and have done this many times.”

Portland: a special track for Rosenqvist

Portland International Raceway has historically been a strong venue for Rosenqvist. The driver believes the characteristics of the circuit suit his style.

“Portland is one of those tracks where qualifying pace and strategy are usually very straightforward. It is also a track I really enjoy, maybe similar to the places where I grew up racing.”

Beyond the circuit itself, the Swedish driver highlighted his connection with the local fans.

“I feel there is a strong Swedish heritage in Portland. I see many old Volvos and people with Swedish flags. It feels like my second home on the West Coast.”

Leaving Meyer Shank Racing has not changed his focus

Rosenqvist recently confirmed that he will leave Meyer Shank Racing at the end of the season to return to Arrow McLaren in 2027. Despite the announcement, he says the team remains fully focused.

“When decisions like this are made during the year, everyone has done a great job looking forward. We still have a third of the season ahead and everyone is positive and hungry to win.”

The driver also acknowledged how difficult the decision was.

“It was probably the hardest decision I have had to make, but I am excited for next year.”

Meyer Shank Racing’s progress has been key

Rosenqvist considers 2026 one of the strongest IndyCar seasons of his career and credits the collective effort inside Meyer Shank Racing.

“It is a team effort. The understanding between myself and my engineers regarding the direction of the car setup has improved a lot.”

According to him, the team made an important change after Long Beach.

“We did not start the year as well as we wanted, but we changed the setup direction and had much more success. In a field where everyone is extremely competitive, details make the difference.”

He also believes Meyer Shank Racing has become a serious contender for the future.

“They are a huge threat. We have established ourselves as consistent front runners week after week. The full package is there and if they continue on this path, they will be championship contenders.”

New IndyCar car brings important changes

Rosenqvist also discussed the upcoming IndyCar car, known as the IR28, praising improvements in safety, cooling and driver positioning.

“It is a major upgrade in quality-of-life features for everyone working on the car and for the drivers.”

He also praised the aerodynamic concept.

“The design is aggressive and has a real functional purpose. The bodywork was created to allow closer racing and reduce turbulence behind the car. The main focus was improving the racing product and making a faster car.”

Power steering discussion

Another topic was the possibility of introducing power steering in future IndyCar machinery.

For Rosenqvist, the change could improve safety.

“These cars are very demanding to drive and that is part of the DNA of the sport. However, power steering would be excellent from a safety perspective.”

The driver explained that he has suffered hand injuries during his career and believes the series must balance physical demands with driver safety.

“We have many drivers suffering fractures in their hands, fingers and wrists. The question is how much we value that extreme physical demand compared with the cost of injuries.”

Searching for victory before the season ends

With a consistent year behind him, Rosenqvist believes the main goal for the final races is maximizing performance.

“Getting the maximum out of myself is priority number one.”

He pointed out that the team has been close to victory in recent races, including Road America and Long Beach.

“The team is very hungry for a win on a normal race weekend. If we aim for victories, everything else will come naturally.”

Currently seventh in the championship standings, Rosenqvist sees a top-five finish as a realistic goal.

“If we can get into the top five, that would be incredible.”

Return to Arrow McLaren and driver maturity

Speaking about his second chapter with Arrow McLaren, Rosenqvist explained that he returns as a more complete driver.

“Over the last three years, I have worked on every small detail, becoming wiser, more experienced and hopefully faster.”

He believes the biggest change has been his ability to lead a team.

“Today I am a more mature driver. I understand better what I need from the car and I can lead the team better than I could three years ago.”

Indy 500 victory changed his mindset

Rosenqvist also discussed the impact of winning the Indianapolis 500, describing it as the biggest achievement of his career.

“It is a huge relief knowing you have that achievement secured when you eventually hang up the helmet. It gives you confidence.”

However, he emphasized that success at Indy does not remove the need to keep improving.

“You still have to prove yourself every race.”

Special relationship with Pato O’Ward

The Swedish driver also spoke about his friendship with Pato O’Ward, his former teammate at Arrow McLaren.

“When I joined McLaren in 2021, I didn’t know Pato. But we immediately connected during the first test. He was the best man at my wedding, we live two minutes away from each other and spend a lot of time together.”

On track, however, the relationship remains professional.

“In engineering meetings we are very direct and transparent. The goal is to give both of us the opportunity to be fast and let the best man win.”

Portland expectations

For Rosenqvist, the key challenge in Portland will be turning speed into results.

Last year, the driver had the pace to fight for victory but lost ground after a strategic decision during a caution period.

“We had good pace, started at the front and I was running second behind Pato O’Ward. If we qualify well again and get the strategy right, we have everything needed to fight at the front.”

With a demanding final stretch ahead, Felix Rosenqvist aims to close his Meyer Shank Racing chapter with a major result while preparing for his return to Arrow McLaren in a new phase of his career.

The Portland race will be another important chapter in the IndyCar championship battle.
